Pocket App-- LearnEnglish Podcasts

Language learners may not be satisfied with merely learning English in the classroom. Besides, numerous facts also prove that successful learners put in more effort outside the classroom.

To meet the need of these learners who would like to make good use of their time after class, the mobile app 'LearnEnglish Podcasts' promotes users' listening and reading skills at anytime, anywhere.

How to use this app?

Actually, this application is simple in design so it is easy to get access.

What you need to do is to choose your favourite topic and start your practice! The topic covers a range of topics, from life tips to cultural rituals. There is always one that will attract you!

There are many topics to listen to and the podcast is always up-to-date, so you don't have to worry about whether you will run out of materials someday.

You can download the episodes so that you can listen to them whenever you lose network. ๐Ÿ‘

When you pick up one of the episodes to start practising, what you can see on this page is a time bar where you can locate the audio to specific timing. You can also slow down the audio speed if you find it a little bit difficult to understand.

Below the time bar is the transcript of the audio, which assist learners to check if they hear the word or message correctly.

When you click on the exercise button, there are a few TRUE or FALSE questions to demonstrate your comprehension of the audio.

Couldn't be easier, right?

How do I foster language learning in my context?

As I said that this app is especially useful for learners who would like to spend their spare time learning English. Besides, the aim of this app is simple and straightforward, but the function of a good learning tool doesn't have to be complex sometimes. Therefore, instead of incorporating this app into classroom teaching, it would be better to use it to develop students' habits of listening and reading in their daily life. The sense of language not only develops from interest but also from good learning habits. I remember I always listened to audiotapes of my course book every morning and English music broadcasting every weekend when I study at primary school, subsequently, my English pronunciation is often complimented by my teachers and friends.

Limitations

๐Ÿ˜ฆ A few sorts of questions

I did several episodes but I found the exercise of each episode are generally 'true or false' questions, it is suggested to add more types of questions such as multiple choices to develop comprehension because it entails relatively deeper thinking and analysis.
